Jenbacher containerized units now even more sustainable
INNIO Group’s Jenbacher containers are flexible and reliable decentralized energy solutions. Easily and quickly installed and commissioned, they save space and are tailored precisely to customer specifications. After 16 years of container production in Hungary, they now are being produced again at the headquarters in Jenbach, Austria. This sustainability project simplifies both quality control and logistics, increases efficiency, and reduces CO2 emissions.
In August 2024, it was time to say “Welcome back home” to Jenbach. The container construction for Jenbacher units – moved to Hungary to expand production capacities in 2008 – was brought back to INNIO Group’s headquarters. This means that the container modules are now “not only” being developed in Jenbach, but also are built there on a new production line in Hall 9. While one system (the engine) previously had to be incorporated into a second one (the container), the solution now is conceived holistically and thus can be implemented in a more resource-efficient manner – an approach that is in line with the spirit of INNIO Group’s sustainability strategy.
The proximity to the development department, the entire process chain, and the industry also allow for even faster implementation of customer specifications. This is because the containers are constantly adapted to new developments, and customers worldwide receive their tailored solution from a single source.
When simplicity and speed are called for: containerized solutions
Jenbacher containers are tailored space-saving solutions. The power systems delivered in their own “building” enable distributed power generation directly at the point of use – even as greenfield projects. The Jenbacher containers are made of robust steel to further increase the service life of the assemblies and offer effective protection for the components inside. The standard length is 40 feet, or a spacious 12 meters, with up to 3 meters in width and height. The exact dimensions vary, depending on customer specifications.
With their compact design, Jenbacher containers can be commissioned quickly and easily while offering the usual high reliability and flexibility of a Jenbacher solution. The pre-installed systems are particularly suitable as mobile power generation systems, both for covering peak loads and for continuous power supply, and as flexible emergency power supplies. In addition to the engine itself, the containers contain pre-installed packages with all the necessary auxiliary systems, including control panels, cooling systems, engine exhaust systems, and all the essential components for generator operation. The entire system periphery is located on its roof – from the supply air box with filters to the cooling system and exhaust gas purge ventilation unit. And you don’t have to make do with one single container; Jenbacher containerized units are scalable up to several 100 MW.
Integrated execution, reduced CO2 emissions
The relocation of container production from Hungary to Jenbach is a sustainability project. Not only have the assembly processes, quality control, and logistics been simplified, but the consolidation of engine and container production in one location also facilitates packaging and reduces testing processes, leading to significant CO2 savings. Production in an advanced low-energy hall and shorter transport routes further reduce the ecological footprint.
Jenbacher containers are in themselves a sustainable energy solution, as they require only a foundation and significantly less space rather than a dedicated hall with maintenance-intensive infrastructure. With their complete production in Jenbach and the associated CO2 savings, they are now even greener.
