INNIO Group introduces even more efficient Generation F for Jenbacher Type 2 engine platform

• Innovative features of the successful Jenbacher Type 3F engine were transferred to the Type 2 platform
• J208 F engine boosts efficiency by up to 3 percentage points, reaching 41.8%, and increases electrical output by 9%, up to 360 kW
• Jenbacher J208 F engine offers significant customer benefits in terms of efficiency, emissions, and ease of maintenance

  • INNIO Group introduces even more efficient Generation F for Jenbacher Type 2 engine platform

JENBACH, Austria - November 5, 2024 - INNIO Group today announced the market launch of the new, even more efficient Generation F for its Jenbacher Type 2 engine platform. Compared to the previous version, the new eight-cylinder J208 F engine achieves up to 3 percentage points higher efficiency at 41.8%, with electrical output increased by 9% to as much as 360 kW. Additional benefits include reduced total hydrocarbon (THC) emissions and greater maintenance ease – with the proven robustness and future-proof fuel flexibility that characterize all Jenbacher solutions. Most of the installed Type 2 engines also can be upgraded to the 2F generation.

With a power range from 400 kW to 1,100 kW, Type 3 engines made this generation leap in support of the transition to net zero in 2022. Now, with the transfer of this innovation to the Type 2 platform, the power range from 250 kW to 360 kW also is covered.

"Our innovative, engine-based technologies are designed to actively help shape a climate-neutral future. With the new Jenbacher J208 F, we offer a proven energy solution with significantly increased efficiency that focuses on a sustainable and secure energy supply," says Andreas Eberharter, VP Product Management & Marketing of INNIO Group’s Jenbacher product brand.

"We have been convinced by the Jenbacher J208 engines for more than 10 years," say Reinhard Lausecker (Wastewater Manager) and Markus Strohschneider (Technical Operations Manager) from the Wastewater Disposal Association at Tegernsee, a German pilot customer. "That's why we also wanted to benefit from the increased performance of the engine by upgrading to the new F generation. Thanks to the improved fuel efficiency of the Jenbacher 2F generation, we were able to increase our profitability while also reducing our ecological footprint at the same time. We are particularly impressed by the running behavior of the 208 F engine."

Since its introduction in 1976, the Type 2 has impressed industrial companies and municipalities with its robust design and long lifespan. The more than 1,300 Type 2 engines delivered worldwide have cumulatively reached over 40 million operating hours to date. Jenbacher Type 2F engines are available for applications in countries with a 50 Hz mains frequency and also will be available for countries with a 60 Hz grid in the future.
